Passing the Bar Exam

Candidates Who Passed
The July 1997 NYS Bar Exam

November 21, 1997
New York Lawyer

Of the record 8,520 people who took the July 29-30, 1997 New York State bar examination, 6,029 (70.8 percent) passed. Of the 7,283 people who took the test for the first time, 5,688 (78.1 percent) passed.

The number of successful candidates came close to the record 6,091 who passed the July 1994 exam. But the percent of all test-takers who passed this year fell well short of the record 78.7 percent who passed the July 1994 exam.

Candidates who passed are listed below under the Appellate Division in which they have applied for admission. The 686 candidates who passed the exam but are not certified for admission, because the Board of Law Examiners has not yet received proof they passed the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, are listed separately.
